Friday Funnies Sept. 12, 2008

by Blogger Dad on September 12, 2008

After a week off, the Friday Funnies are back. In the words of Jack’s Big Music Show, Yipee! Let the random fun begin:

Before I begin, Tara was kind enough to write about this blog as well as other blogger dads in her blog yesterday. Thanks for the kind words, Tara.

C’mon, have you seen a happier looking baby?

This pic is from last year, when he was around 20 weeks old (give or take about 20 weeks). I dare you to look at this picture and NOT smile.

Sign of the week

Someone ought to call the grammar police. Wow. What an idoit.

Link(s) of the week – the Letterman edition

Rolling Stone’s comedy issue is out. Inside are some great mini-interviews with various comedians on how they got their starts and other stuff. The featured interview is a one on one with David Letterman and makes for a great read (note: the website only features an abbreviated version of the interview). There is also the New York Times piece (from that same interview) where Letterman dishes on NBC’s decision to replace Leno with Conan. If you’re feeling nostalgic for some old school Letterman, well, I didn’t see anything from the 80’s when he was in his prime, but you can check out the magazine’s interview with him from 1993 or this one from 1996.

Funny blog post of the week

Mom or Mum Wars posted what might be the funniest blog entries I’ve seen in months.

And since I started this edition of Friday Funnies with a smile, I’ll end it with one for all you dog lovers out there (though my son is FAR cuter than some goofy dog).

Aww, your son is adorable.

My wife loves getting fortunes. Mine appear to be throw-a-way fortunes. Have you ever seen the short movie, “The Half Moon” (or something close to that, it’s on the DVD for Century Hotel)? It’s about a writer who gets a job in a Chinese restaurant called The Half Moon. His job is to spy on the people who are having dinner, and then write their fortunes. And I think that’s just an incredibly interesting thing. I almost wish there was a real place like that–especially near where I live.

(I love working overnights…I’m always the first to read.)

Matthew – Thanks for the comment on my son. Never saw the DVD you’re talking about. I used to work overnight for years, it was great. I didn’t have access to a computer, though. I was able to get lots of writing, drawing and reading done, though.

Hi Blogger Dad,

These are funny. I especially like the baby picture. He made me smile. Well actually, he made me laugh.

Are they trying to make idiot into “I do it,” and it’s the world’s most unfunny joke?

Barbara – I LOVE that picture. On Christmas, I had a hardcover photobook made for my wife, mother and mother-in-law with pictures of E from birth to that point. One page features 9 of his goofiest faces with that one as the centerpiece.

Writer Dad – No, I think they just got it wrong. Also note the incorrect usage of ‘there’.

That has to be one of the smiliest faces I’ve ever seen. Very cute!

After all the poop talk lately I was betting one of the cats was going to do one. I wasn’t disappointed though.

I loved the way as the third kitty enters the frame, the other two stop fighting to spectate.

Dark is right! Hahahahaha. This toon makes Calvin and Hobbes look like the pussies they are. LMAO.

You Da Man!! (I can say that because I’m all gangsta now – oh yes)

This is hilarious. I didn’t even notice the IDOIT until Writer Dad pointed it out…My eyes quickly jumped to the improper use of there, Man, whoever there Editor is, must be fierd (HA).

“You will die of esophogeal cancer” That was great. Does anyone else know that fortune cookies are an american invention, they don’t even have them in China…go figure.

Dave – Yeah, my boy can smile! …. I figured I would keep this a poop-free Friday….Calvin and Hobbes RULES! … Gangsta Dave? Reaching out to a new demographic?

Tara – The baby is Waaaaaay cuter than the dog!

Sal – LOL. I drew that comic a few years ago, but it is still one of my favorites. I love that line….As for the Chinese cookie, I heard that somewhere, maybe on an NPR show. Another interesting fact about the cookies, I might be the only person who actually enjoys eating them. So many people open them up and toss the cookie (no pun intended) aside just to get to the fortune.

Mom/Mum – You’re welcome, thanks for writing such a funny blog post. Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean the kids HAVE to stay inside. A lot of fun can be had making mudmen. :)

Wow, that’s some authentic sounding ‘gang’ talk, Dave. I wasn’t aware that the UK was caught in a time warp. :)

Blogger Dad,
That face! That look! I want to go to all of my photo albums and spend 3 weeks looking – and looking again. Where has the time gone? When did I blink and end up with 2 lovely young ladies?

And where has MY time gone? lol The blog! The blog!

Interesting interviews. I’m currently working on one, and expect to have it done by early evening. I don’t think I ever realized how time-consuming an interview could be! You ask questions or you answer questions. Simple, right?

WRONG! But, as you know, deadlines are deadlines!

And I LOVE the dog…but I have to agree. The kid is cuter! Unfair to post both pictures on the same blog! That poor dog desserves his due!

That’s a great baby picture. Try showing that on his graduation day!

Rita – I look forward to your answers. And yes, I am all to familiar with pressing deadlines. Yeah, that was unfair. The poor defenseless dog never had a chance against the adorable smiling baby!

Dave – Hey, you dropped the gang talk! Welcome back.

Orlund – hey, thanks for coming by the site. As for graduation day, I have a few other pictures which might make for a better presentation. Or better blackmail material.
