Happy Halloween: Costume Time!
Happy Halloween!
What if you held a meme and nobody showed?
Well, my first attempt at a meme went bust. As you may recall, I asked readers to post (or submit) Halloween photos on their blogs back from when they were kids. It was going to be HUGE! It was the Best Idea I Ever Had! I was anticipating a flood of people posting their pics.
Well, I got exactly two participants. I got a few others from people saying either a) they didn’t dress up, b) they don’t have pics from them or c) they were never children.
Perhaps, I should’ve waited until I had more than two regular readers (thanks, my wife and my mom – two separate people, despite what that jerk Tony said in middle school). Or maybe I should have pimped the meme a bit more on my site to constantly remind people.
At any rate, thanks to those who did play along.
First up is Ron from Clark Kent’s Lunchbox who posted this photo, along with several other ones on his blog earlier this month.
Next up is Sean from Writer Dad who didn’t post anything on his site, but did send me these photos. The first one is pretty creepy. I forget which one he said he was in the bottom photo. Maybe the blond girl in the center front row? (I KiiiiiiD!)
As for Dave Fowler and Tara Cain, these two Brit bloggers claim they didn’t celebrate Halloween when they were younger. Well, maybe not, but that won’t stop me from finding pics and attributing them to the duo.
Up first, Tara. Since she had a bad day earlier this week, she gets off easy with this cute Supergirl pic found on Flickr. Being a fellow geek, she should not be upset.
And lastly, my pal, Dave Fowler. As much as he snipes at Tara and myself for our geeky pursuits, I can only assume that he is a closet nerd. Flickr turned up this photo of him cooking for his family. Case closed.
And while I hoped my mom would find a cute pic from when I was a kid, she only turned up some pics from when I was a teenager. There was one of me dressed as a girl, which is blackmail-worthy embarrassing. However, since only a few people played along, nobody gets to see it. Maybe next year if we can get some more participants. Here is one from God knows when. I think I was going for a zombie look, a zombie with bad fashion sense who wears acid washed jeans. And oh yeah, the hair is all mine, at the start of my metal phase. Bon Jovi had nothing on me. Well, except he scored with many more teenage girls than I did in high school. As for my hair, it got much, much longer. One day I decided to cut it all off. It was easily two feet long (the chicks LOVED it, so shut up Dave, I can already hear you sharpening the knives). I kept it for a few years as a reminder of the one time in my life I was cool looking. I was tempted to sell it to a wig shop, but eventually, I donated it to Locks of Love. I believe there was enough hair there to make 2,000 wigs. I wish I had kept a chunk of it, though. Just to remember… Maybe I’ll grow it long again?

And since it is Friday, why not close with a Halloween-themed comic?
Happy Halloween, everyone. Have fun tonight. And if you need Fowler’s address to egg his house, just shoot me an e-mail. We’ll get him into the Halloween spirit one way or another! For those who dress up this year or dress their kids up this year, if you post the pictures on your blog, feel free to come back here and add it in the comments for readers to check out.
See you all on Monday when I post something which may cause half of you to drop me from your RSS subscriptions.
as always, thanks for reading.

BD this was just all very excellent but the line that made me choke on my laughter was Tony’s assertion that your wife and mother are the same person. Waaaaaaa hahahahaha.
Sorry BD, I’ll have to return to this later so that I can tell you all the many ways this post is hilarious.

I feel like I’ve really let you down BD! But even if I had submitted something, it would never have lived up to CK’s fabulous and very very wrong photo. Or your Zombie make over.
I have two hyped up little ones chomping at the bit at the moment waiting to discover what glorious candy awaits them.
Can’t wait for the sugar crash tomorrow . . . I may need that Supergirl costume after all!

You’ll have to come over to my place today and Name My Costume. Since I have no clue what I am, I really need help…
GreenJelloLand
And my mom has all my Pictures Of Halloweens Past at her house. Maybe sometime when I’m over there next, I’ll dig out the old photo albums…

Okay, so wasn’t able to visit yesterday to learn about your meme, but 24 hours notice would have been too short, given all my childhood photographs would require scanning. And yep, I do not own a scanner! I guess that makes me old and technologically challenged.
The Urbane Lion and I are hosting a Hallowe’en Costume Party tomorrow. The theme is Fast Cars & Fast Women. He’s going as James Bond (complete with tux and spy gear) and I will be Pussy Galore (complete with 60′s blonde hairdo!). Maybe…just maybe…photographs will be shared after the event. *smile*

Tara, I had NO idea, you little minx. Fowler’s picture on the other hand, doesn’t surprise me at all.
Dave, I’m with you on the hair. In high school, for a year, mine went past my shoulders. I thought I was cool, but the pictures prove that I was not. By the way, the shimmying gnome looks like a total ass hat.

that was a great post and I am sorry that I did not play, I kinda feel like a shumk.
BD trust me when I tell you that I won’t be making jokes about your hair. My own hairline is receding faster than my love life.
Hey the dude you have as me is quite handsome don’t you think?
Tara looks cold though.
I celebrated Halloween today. I got the children some dressing up costumes (power rangers, wall.e, Monsters Inc and a cute pumpkin). I got a couple of pumpkins and carved Spiderman in one and your regular triangle eyes and pointy teeth in the other. We got some IGOR crappy meals for lunch. I made a cake, we had a little party and now I’m shattered.
It wasn’t spectacular by any stretch but we’ll build on it year upon year.
So thanks BD and Tara for making me do it.
I’m grateful to you.
I’ll say it again…..
I’m grateful to you.

I couldn’t find the picture of me dressed as Raggedy Ann. It’s in a photo album, in a box, under more boxes, in a room, in my house.
Happy Halloween

@Dave: Some day in years to come, one of your children will be blogging and writing a post about the first year they ever ‘celebrated’ Halloween and how much fun it was and how great it was of mum and dad to go all out for them, and then Dave my friend, then it will all have been worth it.
I have just finished the fun (look it’s 9.30pm!) and will try and get something up to prove it.
And no, I was not wearing a supergirl outfit.
Tara@From Dawn Till Rusks last blog post..Wordless Wednesday: What’s the first single you ever bought?
Tara, I thoroughly enjoyed it and they did too. Next year should be an improvement and hopefully we can develop it into a family tradition. My boys were thrilled and when my wife came home from work she was surprised to see the pumpkins and the fancy dress. I hadn’t told her, and she was just as thrilled to see the kids having a great time with Daddy.
Anyway, I don’t know what sort of man you take me for, thinking I’d be interested in seeing women wear a supergirl outfit. Tsk

This is like a bowl of snacks at a bar – allot of nuts! Thanks for doing this BD.
Tara and Dave… Now that’s the picture of the two of you when I read your little exchanges on everyone’s blogs.
Sean, Is that a lawn gnome?
And BD, all zombies have bad fashion sense. Lol! This was as fun as it was incriminating.

Ah shoot. Have just spent ages writing our Halloween party review and my darn site is down for maintenance!
And er hello? Did CK actually call everyone else a bunch of nuts? Is this the same gent with a picture up of him as a glam rocker? Cause that’s not nuts at all is it?
Every time I see your name from now on CK, I shall picture you in your skintight hot pants. They weren’t hot pants? Well, they were in my head

Alas, there are no photographs of the rare costume wearing I did…but just now I put a photo of the Evil Genius in this year’s costume on my blog. He decided that he would be a ghost, lucky me…a couple of yards of muslin, snip snip, done.
I hope you had a happy, safe night.

I wish I would have known or watched closer. I have a photo of me in a monkey costume and a friend of mine playing the accordian (who plays the accordian these days? – seriously). We were quite the monkey grinder routine. We won first place that year! Great photos you found by the way.
