Next week, we are going to embark on our first potty training adventure.
E is 27 months old and seems to be ready to ditch the diapers. I know I sure am ready to stop buying them!
The question is -
are we ready to do what needs to be done?
Thankfully, Sean (Writer Dad) and Cindy Platt will be providing potty training help with their Potty Training Power program. Here is the disclaimer – yes, I am involved with this program (I drew the illustrations and designed the web site) and it is partially in my interest to see it do well. However, as regular readers know, I am VERY reluctant to endorse things because I still conduct myself a journalist and my opinion can never be bought (unless your name is Sony and you have a PlayStation 3 with my name on it).
I only agreed to be on board with Potty Training Power because Sean and Cindy convinced me that their program has worked without fail, it is a legitimate product with a legitimate need and potty training is something that I know a lot of people struggle with.
Having seen most of the material, I am somewhat familiar with the content. But to be honest, I wasn’t really paying attention to the finer details because back when I drew it, potty training seemed so far away. I was in no rush if my wife wasn’t.
However, with just a few weeks left of summer, the time has come.
We want to get this done before day care starts back up. And I thought to myself, what better way to really throw myself into potty training than to also blog about it.
Given their experience with their own kids and the dozens of kids they helped during their years running a day care, and then the first wave of Potty Training Power customers who bought the program, Sean and Cindy have a 100% success rate with even the most difficult-to-train children. On top of that, the program also allows you to email them with potty training questions, which I am pretty sure I will be using.
I can almost see my email now.
Dear Sean and Cindy,
HELP!!!!
David
I don’t anticipate E being difficult, since he seems interested in the potty seat we bought him. But, you never know until you try and he is getting to the point where things he used to routinely do have become a bit more difficult. In other words, he is starting to assert himself and doesn’t like to cede control. This could be good, in that he wants to be independent of us when it comes to potty time or… and this is what I fear … he may see this as a power play of us wanting to change him in some way.
So, this weekend, my wife and I will read Potty Training Power. On Monday, the fun begins! I’ll be updating you during the week and hope to have good news to report. I realize this topic won’t apply to all of my readers, but I hope to keep the posts entertaining.
Wish me us luck!
All in all, I hope there won’t be a lot of crying because I hate crying in front of my wife and kid.
Got a potty training horror story to get me good and scared before Monday? Feel free to leave it in the comments.

Really, I shouldn’t laugh. I thought my Baby Girl was totally ready at that age too. She wasn’t trained until after FOUR!!!!! She is just really head strong and she wasn’t going until she was ready. Period.
So I wish you the best of luck and I will be waiting in anticpation to see if this program works for you and if it does I will be bookmarking it for Bud.

Good luck mate. I should probably buy the book too. It’s about time I got out of the diapers.

We are there too with our son who is 25 months. He has been in basic training for some time now. Almost time to step it up a notch. Good luck to you all.

You can’t really “train” a kid to use the potty until they’re really ready so if he doesn’t take to it at first, don’t push it or he’ll just dig his heels in more. Wait a couple months and try again. Just keep everything casual and keep mentioning the potty and asking him if he wants to use it but try not to put too much pressure on him as it has a negative effect on some kids and gives them a complex about peeing and pooping, therefore delaying the process even longer than need be.
Most kids actually become fully toilet independent somewhere between 3-4. Some kids get it earlier but it’s not ‘abnormal’ for a 2-year-old to still wear diapers. Good luck!
