Storm watch: day two

Just a quick update: Tropical Storm Fay should be coming ashore, possibly over me, between now and morning. Winds are picking up. Crossing fingers that the power will not be interrupted. With 60 mph wind gusts, I’m not sure how realistic a hope that is.

I filled a couple dozen sand bags today to build a dam around my doors and garage, just in case it floods. The storm stalled south of us today, dropping about 24 inches of rain in one county. Obviously, many homes were flooded. And of course, the TV news crews were on the scene to show kids playing in the floodwater and people surfing in the high seas, all while the reporters or anchors made snide remarks.

One cameraperson showed a couple of guys playing around in the surf (several yards behind a reporter), and the reporter actually said, “good for you, you got on camera.”

crap, the power is going on and off. blah. looks like the A/C will be going soon.
